The Sol Classic Car Club was formed by Nick Coombs in 2004 and since then the membership has gone from strength to strength. Monthly club nights, regular outings for the classics, social evenings and gatherings abound.
The Club meets on the first Tuesday of every month (with the exception of July and August) and runs and rallies to 'exercise' the cars are arranged for the first Saturday following each meeting. For more details of when and where we meet, please see the membership page.
The Saturday events normally start with breakfast at a Venta and end with lunch at a pre-arranged venue. The programme of runs and rallies is compiled with the voluntary help of members. An initial draft is produced at the beginning of the year and is updated throughout the season as more runs and rallies are planned and "finely tuned." Last season for example, one run took members through the spectacular Guadalhorce Valley, taking in Alozania, El Burgo and Yunquera. Another took members to the Natural Reserve of El Torcal, one of Europe's most beautiful and impressive landscapes.
The club also participates in other classic car events. The Gibraltar Rally is one example, where Sol Classics joined ten other clubs for an event in which almost 70 classic cars took part, making it one of the largest gathering of classics in Andalucia. On another occasion Club Members were given a rare treat: a private classic car collector opened his doors to club members and guests. The collection comprised some 90 world famous classic cars, all in concours condition. So diverse was the collection that even experienced enthusiasts were hard pressed to correctly identify all the models.
