From Your Committee September 2011

Hello Everyone

Now that the long hot summer is over and the visitors have returned to their respective homes, we here in Andalucia can pick our lives back up and remember the good but exhausting time we have had. I personally don't remember young children being that energetic, but then I must have been younger!

Your Club has not been totally inactive over the summer as you have no doubt realised from the numerous events emails sent out over the last six weeks – from the "dogs run" on August to the gathering in Ronda at the beginning of September, it has not been a quiet summer. And I am happy to report that we have had several enquiries from prospective new members, all with interesting classic cars. Let's give them a warm welcome at our next Club Night.

On the subject of Club Night, my message to the owners of the Nueva Kaskada appears to have been heeded as the catering in September was excellent.

Just a word about Jim and Charlene Sutton's "at home" earlier this year. One of our members managed to get lost in the hills around Mijas and did not make for lunch. Fortunately for the rest of us a splendid trifle in a blue cool box did as it was brought along to the start of the run. So, anyone out there who has lost a blue "cool box" please come along to Club night and retrieve the same from Jim.

September Run

John and Roger spent considerable time in the early part of September organising the September run, ably supported by John Blackburn, our events co-ordinator. The starting point was inland just outside Ronda with cars meeting at the Hotel Dehesilla on the Carretera de Ronda-Benoajan from about 10.00 a.m. The turnout, sadly, was low on this particular run but, not to be deterred, a very select group set off down the road having had breakfast and seen the spectacular arrival of John Blackburn's new acquisition, a splendid Ferrari.

The roads were very negotiable on the whole run for all the cars ‐ if somewhat slow through the forest sections largely due to the low slung nature of some of the cars. As usual the countryside was looking at its beautiful best in the sunshine and was very quiet and peaceful. The peace was only disturbed by the overheating Ferrari that insisted on taking a rest through the slow forest section. John kindly gave the temperamental car a lift home for some rest and recuperation!

Lunch was at the splendid upmarket restaurant the El Casario. Cars arrived at the finish somewhat later than planned but this being Spain nobody was unduly concerned!

Looking Ahead

October Club Night Wednesday 12th October at the Nueva Kascada

Club nights have always been very enjoyable here in spite of the minor hiccups with the catering due largely to the change of chefs. However it appears that the new chef has settled down to meet our requirements. Several members have told the Committee that the venue is excellent particularly for its location and it would be a pity if we had to start looking for another.

So come along – the food is good, the atmosphere is good, and even the price is good. I can personally confirm that we are getting a very special deal as I have taken friends out to the Kaskada on a Saturday and experienced the same high quality catering but at a considerably higher price.

October picnic at Pinar del Rey 15th of October

The following is our invitation for the Campo de Gibraltar club to join us on the 15th of October on our picnic at Pinar del Rey. Usual meeting place, petrol station at Torreguadiaro at 10.30 ish and a coffee stop somewhere along the way. Nick said we will also invite the Gib club along. He asked if there were any suggestions re route, etc. as they have much more local knowledge. Nick will update when he gets a reply. These guys usually field a good turnout so let us work on getting the same.
