February 2010: Casarabonela and Alora Run
September 2009: Picnic in the Pinewoods
The first club night at our new permanent venue was a great success, with a wonderful line-up of classics along the front of the club house. The evening was relaxed and sociable with members and guests mingling freely before, during and after the buffet meal which was delicious and plentiful. Staff at the Marbella club could not do enough to make our evening enjoyable. They even took a video of the cars arriving which was shown on the ceiling while we ate. You can see it on their website (click here to view).
The next club night here will be Monday May 3rd - don't miss it!
Sadly this year's unpredictable Andalucian weather was very unkind to the organisers of our April run – Ken and Lorraine and Jorgen and Hanne, who had put in a great deal of preparation to make it a day to remember. Thunderstorms had been rumbling and crashing round Malaga since the early hours of the morning which meant that the majority of the classics had to be left at home in favour of more waterproof means of transport.
However, Ken's little 1966 Hillman Minx took everything in its stride, happily negotiating both soaking motorways and country roads without any of its four passengers being inconvenienced by a single drip – they built them tough in those days to withstand the British weather!
The route led from a soaking Plaza Mayor along the coast and then into the mountains behind Rincon de la Victoria, winding up into Axarquia and stopping for coffee in El Borge, where the foaming river was more spectacular than usual! From here the drive was back down to the coast via Iznate where drivers had to negotiate damaged roads as well as coping with the never-ending rain. Once back on the autovia it was on to lunch – at a very special venue, the celebrated Roca Tranquila restaurant in Torreblanca.
The restaurant had opened a purpose-built function suite since the Club's last visit, providing more privacy with the same high standard of cuisine. And during the leisurely lunch the sun came out making the views down to Fuengirola as spectacular as usual.
In fact when everyone came out to drive home it was difficult to believe that it had ever been raining. The "after" photographs made it look like just another sunny day in Andalucia!
