Chilling out "At Home" before the summer break

Jim, Charlene and Chairman Qasim

Jim and Charlene Sutton hosted the summer "at home" at their home in Valtocado on Saturday July 16th.

For those members who haven't met them, they are the proud owners of "Doris" a bright red MGB Roadster dating from 1978 which was shipped back to the UK from California for a complete rebuild before arriving in Spain earlier this year.

Buffet Lunch

The event was planned to enable those members who are remaining here for the summer to enjoy a short run followed by a leisurely "bring and share" lunch.

This avoided the strongest sunshine (which has, of course, come back with a vengeance after a slower than usual start).

It also kept costs down by catering for one another (anything to combat the ever-present "creesis" ).

The day started at the Venta Sol y Sombra (better known to long-standing members as their former meeting place Hoyo19) just outside Fuengirola, from where Events Co-ordinator John Blackburn had planned a circular route.

Dining on the terrace

The food in its variety of coolboxes was kindly transported direct to the venue by John's son Chris.

From there the cars drove to to La Cala (being careful to observe the newly instituted 80 kph speed limit on that stretch of the N340 which has caused something of a furore in the press and the town halls recently!) and thence through the inland campo in a loop which brought them out towards Mijas.

Lunch was a leisurely affair with a variety of dishes that any venta would have been envious of, served on a shady terrace with a welcome breeze and overlooking a wonderful view of the coast. Jim and Charlene were terrific hosts and deserved a big vote of thanks for all their hospitality.

Ray and Carol

Also in line for members' thanks is secretary Carol Lindores who, ably assisted by partner Ray Holland, does a tremendous amount behind the scenes to make club activities run smoothly. (And don't the pair of them look the part in their bright red club polo shirts sporting Henri's new logo!)

They are off to the UK for the rest of the summer and the club is taking a break during August but activities will start up again in September. Keep logging on to "Chatter" the website blog to keep up to date! Here is a direct link: Chatter (opens in a new page).
