Ronda classic car display

Events Co-ordinator John Blackburn has been working hard this summer to keep members entertained. His latest plan, on Friday 2nd September, was to have a car display in Ronda on the first day of the celebrated Pedro Romero feria and he had been liaising with Carmen on the council to allow cars to park in the centre of the town next to the bull ring - allowing passengers the enviable chance to wander round and enjoy the sights with the minimum of hassle.

Ronda bullring

It was unfortunate that the weather decided to break the night before, which put off several would-be attendees, particularly those with soft tops. However, some of us were made of sterner stuff and turned up at the meeting point, Venta la Higuera on the San Pedro road, laughing at the torrential downpour that greeted us!

The drive into the town was a bit soggy but the rain didn't last and proud owners had come equipped with chamois leathers and buckets to polish their pride and joys. The display attracted a lot of attention from locals and visitors, sharing the area with a single horsepower carriage (drawn by a spotty character called Bocholo) and the famous statue of the fighting "toro". Cameras were clicking non stop.

John, organiser, and his assistants

Many thanks to John for his tireless good humour (and for bringing his luxurious Rolls Royce Silver Spur - visitors were agog to learn that it had once belonged to the Sultan of Bahrain) and to Carmen who has asked the Club back to Ronda, perhaps on a quieter day, for a repeat performance in hopefully better weather.
