As usual there was a great deal of good natured competition to win the impressive trophy for the Club's fifth Annual Treasure Hunt in November (sadly one of the main contenders was unable to take part because of a heavy cold!). Twenty-one cars, almost all of them classics, gathered for breakfast at Streets of London in La Cala, where the Club started life in 2004.
Honorary Vice President, Nick Coombs, had closed the restaurant for our private party and laid on breakfast to start the day.
Gethin, Jan and Bobbie, this year's organisers, issued all participants with a short but challenging route book and an even more challenging set of questions!
The 60 kilometre drive wound in and out of the campo round Mijas, ending up back at the start for an excellent lunch. No-one managed to answer all the clues (and many of them missed all the 'easy' ones completely!). Some decided merely to relax and drive in the glorious sunshine, more reminiscent of an English summer than November in Spain. Several stopped to admire the views and take photographs.
Once back at Streets the score sheets were handed in and everyone enjoyed an excellent lunch – Nick is certainly owed a vote of thanks for all the effort he put into making the day a successful and enjoyable one.
Scores were very close for the first five winners. New members Robert and Lynda Walker, driving their 1967 Mercedes 280 SE Pagoda, came out on top and were presented with the impressive trophy by Konrad Thomas, who won it last year with a great deal of help from wife Judy.
The final winners' list was 1st Robert and Lynda Walker; 2nd Hebbi and Frazer (the dog!) with help from Qas, the driver; 3rd Eva Lindblom and Peter; 4th Geoff Brown; Joint 5th Ray Holland and Carol AND John Greenwood and Maggie; 6th Konrad and Judy Thomas; 7th Chris Want (accompanied by Wessel Wiersma from Kosta Autoniews); 8th John and Lana Campbell; Joint 9th John and Soosie Dodd AND John and Chrissie Blackburn
Gethin not only organised the run but also took photographs out in the campo, and all at a time when he was supposed to be recuperating after being in hospital. Determination or dedication, or both?
