With the lighter and warmer evenings our new venue promises to be even more enjoyable. This month we are having a BBQ which has been requested by many members. Drinks will be served on the Club terrace. We are also planning to have members of the American Classic Car Club join us for the evening and members are encouraged to bring any guests they have staying with them.
The meeting will start, as usual, with an informal get together from 7.30 with dinner being served at 8.30 pm. Click to see map.
Ross Davis and Chris Want have organised what promises to be a super run in July. The start of the run will be near to Estepona and they have planned a really fun day for members. We will be having a mouth watering lunch in a boutique hotel in a beautiful village near to the West of Ronda and are hoping to offer a unique raffle with a fantastic prize for the lucky couple. One not to be missed!
This is what Ross and Chris have to say about the July run -
"HOTEL MOLINO del SANTO, Benaojan has been voted among the best boutique hotels in Spain. The huge American travel guide publisher Karen Brown Guides, based in California, asked its readers to nominate their favourite hotels across the world in various categories. The British owned hotel was picked out as Spain's "Most Romantic for 2010".
What's more this is the destination for our car run on the 17th July. It is going to be a great day, starting near Estepona and making our way through stunning scenery to Jubrique, Algotocin, Jimera de Libar and on to Benaojan. Being July it should be a hot day and with this in mind we have, where possible, kept to tree covered roads and kept the distance down to only just over 70kms. We have a venta stop for coffee which has shaded seating and leaves us only an hour from our destination.
The Hotel has a beautiful outdoor shaded dining area for us by the river (it used to be a Mill); we will have welcome drinks followed by a three course meal and coffee. There are 3 choices for each course. There will be wine and water on the tables. We will send you copies of the menu very shortly. (total cost 20Euros per person).
To make this trip even more exciting we have secured a special offer from the hotel. We are to raffle an overnight stay in the hotel for one lucky couple. The lucky winners will enjoy an overnight stay with breakfast, as well as a full 'a la carte' dinner during their stay. A fabulous trip for two of our members! The cost is only 10 euros per couple for a raffle ticket. This prize would normally cost you 180 Euros!!
So mark your calendar now - 17th July - a great day out and the chance for a romantic away day for one lucky couple. We would really appreciate an email from you as soon as possible (please email Bobbie as normal to let us know if you are coming along). Chris and Ross both had lunch there and we can tell you that the food is fabulous. For further information on the hotel look at: www.molinodelsanto.com.

The next technical meeting will be at 8 p.m. on Monday 12th June 2010 at Marbella Golf and Country Club. Click here to see a map: Marbella Golf and Country Club.
We have a special guest Peter Graves, who is very knowledgeable on the ins and outs of the oil industry. He will be giving a talk on the background to the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. There has been a great deal of speculation in the media with individuals making political capital out of the events in the Gulf without knowing the full facts. So come along everyone and be regaled with facts that are not generally available. This promises to be a very good evening.
Peter Greaves is a retired Petroleum Engineer. His degree is in geology and he became a Petroleum Engineer during a ten year career with Shell International, which led to him specializing in drilling and completions engineering, in locations such as Brunei, Australia, and Egypt. After Shell he became a consultant, working for a variety of clients in the UK (onshore South of England and the North Sea), Tunisia, Tanzania, South Africa, China, and Pakistan, on both onshore and offshore operations. For five years he lectured on the subject of 'Well Productivity' for BP around the world. He was also in Houston, Texas, for two years, with 'British Borneo', as the Drilling Manager of a deep-water operation, similar to the one that has recently caused BP so many problems. His final five years were spent as a consultant to BP on deep-water drilling operations in the Black Sea and Angola.
A disaster as big as this is not due to one single thing. Peter's talk will be about the operational aspects that led up to the disaster and trying to understand some of the decisions that led to the catastrophic blow-out. He will also discuss some of the well-kill operations. He says that he knows very little about the clean-up operations, but is just very glad that he has nothing to do with it!
Don't forget that, in August, we are planning our very first evening run to avoid driving in the intense heat in the middle of the day. Our Run Coordinator, Ross Candler, will be organising the run and more details will be provided about the event as soon as we have them
